Screw Purina
So we had been feeding the cats mostly dry food (Nutro) with a couple of cans of Fancy Feast per day for fun, although Fifi and Yo-Yo refused to touch the stuff. Last week, however, the rest of the cats started sporadically refusing to eat the Fancy Feast, even flavors that they had previously loved. Very suspicious.
Then yesterday, I give them a can of Ocean Whitefish and Tuna, turn my back for a minute, and turn back in time to see Phoebe run from the kitchen into the living room, jump up on the arm of the couch, and vomit Fancy Feast all over the couch. I went out to clean it up, and when I came back for more paper towels (~30 seconds later), I see Gus vomiting all over the kitchen floor. This is totally out of character for both cats. There is clearly something seriously wrong with Fancy Feast at the moment. So I toss the remaining eight cans in the trash. No more canned food.
I had been cooking ground turkey a couple of times a week, primarily for Sparky and Fifi, and several of the other cats have developed a taste for it. So for now, the whole gang gets dry food and turkey burger. Per pound, it’s cheaper than canned food anyway.
But what kind of godawful crap is in Fancy Feast that would make two healthy cats vomit violently within 90 seconds of eating it?
UPDATE: I’m not crazy. See this forum post.
